How we maintain accuracy across 63 FIRE calculators
Our Commitment
TorchFI calculators are used by people making real financial decisions. We are committed to accuracy and transparency. Every calculator is built on peer-reviewed financial research and industry-standard formulas. We maintain a public changelog of every data update below, and we welcome corrections — if you spot an error, please contact us and we will investigate within 48 hours.
Review Schedule
Annual Data Refresh (October–November)
Each year after the IRS releases new contribution limits (typically October), we update every calculator default value and country-specific financial number to reflect the upcoming year's rates. This includes:
- US 401(k), IRA, HSA, Solo 401(k), and catch-up contribution limits
- Social Security wage base and COLA adjustments
- Country-specific superannuation, pension, and tax-advantaged account limits (AU, UK, CA, JP, KR, etc.)
- US federal and state income tax brackets
Ad-Hoc Corrections
Between annual refreshes, we immediately correct errors when they are reported or discovered. Each correction is logged in the changelog below with the date and source of the new figure.
Testing Protocol
Core financial formula functions (fireNumber, compoundInterest, safeWithdrawal, etc.) have automated tests in test-finance.mjs. Tests verify calculations against hand-computed benchmark values. We are actively expanding test coverage to 63 calculators.

Our calculators produce estimates based on the inputs you provide and the assumptions we document. They are educational tools, not financial advice. Past market performance does not guarantee future results. Always consult a qualified financial professional for personalized advice.
